Aprašymas

Brackish Blue Humanities and Environmental Art: Thinking with the Baltic Sea invites readers on a speculative cruise across one of Europe's most fragile and politically charged waters.

Moving beyond ocean-centered paradigms of the blue humanities, this volume reimagines the Baltic Sea beyond a peripheral status. Bringing feminist, queer, crip, posthumanist, decolonial, and science-and-technology perspectives into a dialogue with environmental art, artistic research, and marine science, the book foregrounds Eastern and Central European voices alongside Nordic and Western approaches. In doing so, it challenges epistemic hierarchies and repositions the Baltic as a crucial site for thinking about ecological futures beyond the Anthropocene. At once critical and imaginative, this volume proposes brackishness as a method, more-than metaphor, and mode of inhabiting the Baltic Sea Region shaped by pollution, militarization, extraction, as well as resilience and solidarity.

Addressed to artists, researchers, humanists, scientists, and ecologists, this volume reconceives the Baltic as generative: a brackish, unstable, more-than-human agent that unsettles binaries of land and sea, nature and culture, freshwater and saltwater.
